2018 Sweetheart Miss Rodeo Alaska

Shannon Dixon

Shannon Dixon was born in Washington State and moved to Alaska with her family when she was five years old. Shannon is in third grade at Holy Rosary Academy where she is a straight-A student. She has one older brother named Cameron. Shannon is an advanced skier and participates in swim team year-round. She is a singer in her church choir and is learning to play the piano. When not in the water, Shannon volunteers at the Alaska Humane Society where she helps take care of homeless animals. Shannon loves hiking and camping in the great Alaskan outdoors. She is an avid reader, especially of the topic is horses.
Shannon first learned to ride when she was seven years old and soon discovered this was her passion. She tried several styles of riding, but when she first barrel raced, she knew this is what she wanted to do! Shannon won several barrel racing and pole bending awards at the Alaska Jr. Rodeo. Additionally, she won a champion belt buckle for the 907 Barrel Racers. Besides the competition, Shannon loves to spend time at the barn helping out and taking care of her horse Lacey. She has learned many positive life lessons from the people that are part of her horse community. Shannon hopes to be a horseback riding instructor and one day become a large animal veterinarian!
